Concerto Competition for CYMO
- Perform one memorized movement from a concerto
- Limit the performance to 10 minutes
- Perform with your own piano accompanist
- Be a member of the CYMO at least one year before entering
- Members may not win the competition two consecutive years
- Members may not win the competition more than twice
2016 Concerto Competition Winners
Tiffany Wee, age 18, is a native of Redlands, California, and has soloed with the Brentwood-Westwood Symphony, Inland Valley Symphony, Mount Saint Mary's College Symphony Orchestra, Olympia Youth Orchestra and the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra. As a winner of the Redlands Bowl Young Artist competition in 2010, she was one of the featured young artists at the Redlands Bowl summer music concert series. She has performed in Russia with the Loma Linda Academy Consort and has toured Europe as a member of the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra, of which she has held the position of concertmaster since 2013. Tiffany has been the winner of the American String Teachers Association Greater Los Angeles Area Competition and the California Association of Professional Music Teachers State Concerto Competition. She has studied with Danielle Belen at the Colburn School, Jeanne Skrocki, and is currently a student of Alice Schoenfeld and Theresa Woo. Tiffany is a 6-year member of the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra and this is her second performance with the CYMO as a concerto competition winner.
Melody Guo, age 17, has studied music for the great majority of her life, starting with piano at age 5 and bassoon since sixth grade. She is currently a student of Patricia Kindel, contrabassoonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. She has studied with Paul Curtis, Amy Gillick, and Christina Havens in the past. Melody was first place winner of the American Protegé International Music Talent Competition, as well as a semifinalist in The Music Center's Spotlight. She has participated in CBDA All-State Honor Orchestra and Band, CODA All-State Orchestra, and SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Orchestra and Band. Melody has been a member of the CYMO bassoon section for four years and principal bassoonist for the past two years. She is performing as a soloist with the Diamond Bar High School Symphony Orchestra, as well as with CYMO this year. Melody aspires to continue participating in music throughout her life and appreciates the positive influence CYMO has had in her life.
